Okay. Here is how this worked. My oldest brother is Michael. Michael's daughter Brittany (my niece), is married to Chris. Chris is related to Kevin Bacon, who... (not really). Chris and Isaac Slade (lead singer, The Fray) are friends from their Colorado roots. Chris hooked me up with four after-show meet and greet passes, so some guys on our production/creative team could meet Isaac.
The show was killer, but getting to know Isaac was even better. After the show, we talked about how the reality of his faith in Jesus collides with a broken world. Once you've been rescued by Jesus, you realize how much sooner you needed to be found. You can hear the tension in the lyrics of his music.
Lost and insecure, You found me, You found me
Lying on the floor, surrounded, surrounded
Why'd You have to wait, where were You, where were You
Just a little late, You found me, You found me
Life is full of collisions. Ones that we create and ones that find us. In those moments, religious activity, synthetic smiles and dutiful church attendance don't cut it. Those moments peel back the layers of the games we play and the facades we create and bring us to our core need to be made wholehearted.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
